Shavuot 2027
Holiday days: Fri, Jun 11 to Sat, Jun 12, 2027; Hebrew date 6-7 Sivan 5787. Ends at nightfall on Saturday, June 12, 2027.
What is Shavuot?
Shavuot, the Feast of Weeks, comes seven weeks after Passover, on 6 Sivan. In 2027 it begins at sundown on Thursday, June 10, 2027 and lasts two days outside Israel, Friday, June 11 and Saturday, June 12, ending at nightfall. In Israel it is one day, June 11.
Shavuot marks the giving of the Torah at Mount Sinai and the first harvest of wheat and fruit brought to the Temple. It closes the Counting of the Omer, the 49 days counted one by one from the second night of Passover, April 22, 2027, which makes Shavuot the 50th day.

How it is celebrated
Many people stay up the first night studying Torah, a custom called Tikkun Leil Shavuot, and attend a dawn service. The Ten Commandments and the Book of Ruth are read in synagogue. Dairy foods are traditional: cheesecake, blintzes and cheese pastries. Homes and synagogues are often decorated with flowers and greenery. In 2027 the second day runs straight into Shabbat.

Questions and answers
How many days after Passover is Shavuot?
Fifty days after the first day of Passover, counted from the second day: the Omer is counted for 49 days, and Shavuot is the next day. In 2027 Passover begins April 22 and Shavuot June 11.
Is Shavuot a day off?
Not a public holiday in the US. Observant Jews avoid work on both days, which in 2027 are a Friday and a Saturday.
Why is Shavuot one day in Israel and two days elsewhere?
In ancient times the new month was announced from Jerusalem, and communities far away added a day to be safe. Jews outside Israel still keep the second day for the major festivals.
When is Shavuot 2028?
It begins at sundown on Tuesday, May 30, 2028.
