The details

Veterans Day is a federal holiday on a fixed date, November 11, whatever the weekday. In 2026 it is a Wednesday and in 2027 a Thursday. Federal offices close, the Federal Reserve Banks close (so most banks do too), post offices close and there is no regular mail delivery.

The stock market does not observe Veterans Day: the major exchanges trade normally, and the bond market usually closes or trades shorter hours. Most stores, restaurants and private offices stay open. Schools vary by state and district.

Because the date is fixed, Veterans Day moves through the week. When it falls on a Saturday, federal employees get the Friday before off; on a Sunday, the Monday after. That next happens in 2028 (Saturday, November 11, so Friday, November 10 off).
